Continental Greece. Kings of Macedon. Alexander III "the Great" (336-323 BC). AR Tetradrachm, Amphipolis mint. Struck under Antipater, c. 325-323/2 BC. Obv. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY. Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long sceptre in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, Athena Promachos standing right. Price 105. AR. 17.18 g. 25.00 mm. Great metal and full weight. A superb example, perfectly centred, brilliant and lightly toned, with lovely iridescent hues. EF.
