Cn. Pompeius Magnus. AR Denarius, mint moving with Pompey, 49 a.C. Obv. Terminal bust of Jupiter right, wearing diadem; behind, VARRO PRO -Q. Rev. Dolphin, sceptre and eagle, MAGN PRO/COS in exergue. Cr. 447/1a. AR. 3.84 g. 19.00 mm. RR. Very rare. Great metal and broad flan. From masterly engraved dies and superb, with underlying luster. Minor areas of striking flatness, otherwise good EF.
