Sextus Pompeius. AR Denarius, 42-40 BC, Sicily. Obv. MAG PIVS IMP ITER. Head of Neptune right, hair tied with band, with trident over shoulder. Rev. [PRAEF CLAS] ET ORAE MARIT EX [SC] Naval trophy with trident above and anchor below; prow stem on left and aplustre on right; two heads of Scylla at base. Cr. 511/2a. AR. 3.46 g. 19.50 mm. R. A superb example of wonderful style, brilliant and lightly toned. Insignificant scratch on obverse, beside edge at 10 o'clock and minor uncleaned dark deposits, otherwise about EF.
